LaunchDarkly

Client

We’ve been LaunchDarkly’s web partner since 2020, across two platform rebuilds and a full redesign of launchdarkly.com. We migrated their marketing site from Netlify CMS to Prismic, built out the blog, guides and resource centre on that foundation, moved the entire platform from Gatsby to Next.js, and helped deliver the redesign that brought the site in line with their AI-era positioning. We continue to work with them on the site’s ongoing development and performance.

Story

LaunchDarkly came to us with a marketing site running on Gatsby with Netlify CMS. Every piece of content, from a blog post to a case study to a simple headline change, lived as a markdown file committed to the repository. It was a sound setup for an early-stage company, but as LaunchDarkly grew the site outgrew it. Routine content updates had to be routed through an engineering team with more valuable work to do, leaving the marketing team waiting on developer availability to publish.

Brief

The brief was to give the marketing team genuine independence without compromising engineering quality. That meant moving to a headless CMS and breaking the site into components that non-technical editors could compose into new pages themselves, across a site large enough to serve a global developer audience spanning product, pricing, case studies, events, blog and long-form guides. It also meant working inside a codebase shared with LaunchDarkly’s in-house engineering team, and keeping the site moving through major campaign moments including product launches and their annual Galaxy conference.

Solutions

We migrated the site to Prismic and rebuilt it around a slice-based architecture. Rather than fixed page templates, every section of every page became a reusable component that the marketing team can add, reorder and configure themselves. We built a library of these components covering everything from hero sections and pricing tables to animated charts, comparison grids and gated content forms, backed by bespoke page types for the blog, guides, case studies, events and campaign landing pages. Alongside it we implemented Algolia-powered search, a gated content system for lead capture, and preview environments so the team could review unpublished work in context before it went live. The result is a site the marketing team can extend on their own, without a developer in the loop.

With the content foundation stable, we migrated the platform from Gatsby to Next.js, rebuilding the site for speed and long-term maintainability. We catalogued every component across the site to map the migration, established a typed component layer so Prismic content renders consistently everywhere, and consolidated data fetching so each page requests only what it actually renders. On that foundation we helped deliver a full visual and structural refresh, realigning the site with LaunchDarkly’s move into AI. Our ongoing work focuses on performance and maintenance, trimming over-fetching, deferring content below the fold and tightening page load times across the highest-traffic templates.

The Results

What began as a site where every content change required a developer is now a fully composable platform the marketing team runs themselves. Campaigns go live on their timeline, not engineering’s. Across five years, two platform rebuilds and a full redesign around LaunchDarkly’s move into AI, we’ve kept the site evolving with the business as a long-term partner rather than a one-off build.
